Right Arrow ***WELCOME TO THE NEW FORUM***

Morgan and I would like to welcome you to the new forum, and hope that the changes will be painless and beneficial to everyone involved. There are many new options for you to enjoy, so make yourself at home, and let us know if we can help.
  • For those of you who are not familiar with this forum, please use the FAQ button ( this is found in the upper right corner of buttons on your screen ) and browse through the topics. It will explain many of the functions.

For the sake of conserving HD space on our server, each user will be limited to 20 Private Messages total, with a length of 1000 characters each. When you reach this limit your Private Message function will no longer work until you delete some of your messages. You may reach Morgan (feldon23) or me (Jav400) by clicking the PM button under any of our posts.

Thumbs Up New Features and a few Changes

None of the user accounts canbe imported. People will be re-registering accounts over here over the coming weeks and we will make every attempt to restore the number of posts you had on EZBoard over here. If you have been registered for a few days and your post count is still wrong, please let Michael (Jav400) or I know.

We hope there will be minimal troubles with the changeover to this new forum. Here are some of the new features:

<li>Private Message system (your e-mail address is not shared)
<li>Remembers which posts you've read
<li>Useable Search feature!
<li>Adds buttons to jump down to the first unread reply within a long topic
<li>View the list of topics from newest to oldest (EZBoard default), or oldest to newest.
<li>When you reply to a topic, it jumps down to where your reply is, even if it's several screens and pages down.
<li>Provide your own personal 'avatar' image or use one provided.
<li>If someone asks a question that is frequently asked, we can move that question to the end of a longer topic. All Wishlist questions will now be tacked onto the end of the large Wishlist topic.

Note: The term 'thread' is used here in place of 'topic'.

At first I didn't think we'd be able to search the EZBoard stuff. I e-mailed vBulletin and they said sure, just rebuild the indexes.

Every time I wonder "can I change this?" or "can I remove that?" and every time I've asked vBulletin for something that seems impossible, the answer is always yes, you can do that. The configuration was so easy and once I got the hang of the templates, I was able to simplify things and make it easy to use.

[edit]The old threads don't "work" so to speak. Even if someone registers their name, they can't go back and edit their old EZBoard posts. It's just a snapshot of history. As a favor, I went over to the two big polls "Should it maintain backwards compatibility?" and "How do you use the screen saver?" and copied down the graphics and numbers at the end of the poll and pasted them into the archives. So at least we have a copy of the numbers.[/edit]

Through an ingenious little script that one of the vBulletin users wrote, I have been able to link new vBulletin accounts with the old EZBoard postings. As you'll notice, even old posts now list your avatar, location, and you can edit them.

I'm just really impressed with how quickly things have fallen into place.

Smile I like it :)

Really nice forum, the search feature is great! I would also like to add that I am glad all the post could be switched over here, I was just reading some previous post from Coelacanth and Digital Lungfish, they had some interesting fish tales to share. If any of you new members would like to read them, just click the link on question 5.1 in the FAQ.

Cool Activation ID?

I clicked on the link after re-registering but never got to input my "activation ID"... Is this normal? Just thought to let you know...

Yea, I didn't have to do anything with that number either. I just clicked the link in my email and everything was set. What was that activation number for anyhow?

Exclamation Links vs. ID

Following the link is what puts in your ID. The ID is provided if for some reason the link doesn't work, you can manually activate yourself.
