Details
I found this screensaver by accident. It looks
terrific. But there are some details missing. First, the light reflecting on the coral and and bottom of the tank does not reflect on the fish. Second, there is no shadow cast by the fish. Putting a shadow will anchor (pardon the pun) the fish in place making them look even more realistic. Hopefully these will be fixed. Does anyone disagree? Thanks |

We've talked about this many times over the past few years. When I wrote the program, the technology just wasn't up to mapping the lightplay on the fish. it is now, and the next revision will have it.
The typical lighting in a saltwater tank is so diffuse that anything more than a couple of inches off the floor doesn't cast a shadow. I posted some pics demonstaring this the last time it came up, but I don't remember which thread it was in.

I actually don't remember those pictures. Go figure!
If someone finds pictures of a fish relatively close to coral, please post it. Realize that your photo might have a shadow because of unusual lighting conditions. The point here is that a saltwater tank can easily be set up with lighting such that fish will have no noticeable shadows on the gravel.

I think that's the MORAY + VALENTINE HACKS thread, - gets a bit controversial though!

Well, let's not get too excited. I still have an awful lot of work to do on the Freshwater program before I turn my attention back to the Marine tank. (But the Freshwater fish will have lightplay on them.)
