Cool DirectX version. . . .

I currently run DirectX v8.1 on my XP, but I saw on http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.asp that v9.0 is out. Does the MA/MA2 run better on 9.0 is it worth the download? Polling all users!!

I have 9.

I didn't see a real difference in the aquarium or Age of Mythology. Those are the two dx programs I have been using the most lately.

However, I can say it didn't cause me any extra problems.

It's not any worse.

The only app i know(could be wrong) that requires DX9 is 3D Mark 2003, it wont run if you dont have DX9 installed. Also one test wont run unless you have Video Card that supports DX9 features in hardware (Radeon 9700 Pro or better). But as Morgan says it ain't worse so thats a relief, as i had to reinstall my windows numerous times due to experiments like this.

I installed DirectX 9 to see if it would cure the problem of the aqaurium not allowing my monitor to go into power-save mode, and it did.

So far, no ill effects from the upgrade, but I don't play a lot of games on my PC. YMMV

I have XP Pro. I actually used the roll back feature to take DX 9 out (I had a demo that wouldn't run on anything but 8.1) and then put it back again later.
