This happens when I run it on Windows XP x64. Goldfish aquarium works just fine.

Well, that's interesting. Now I suppose everyone is going to want that effect. It looks like a driver problem, but if Goldfish works, then that can't be it. Maybe Edgar will have an idea what's happening.

fred@. - Have you tried reinstalling DirectX ? - If you haven't, strange things can happen. This is a before and after of what happened when I updated drivers but did not reinstall DirectX. - Goldfish Aquarium worked just fine, (but slow). - Be sure to re-boot after reinstalling DirectX.

Which goldfish version is working on your system?
Which version of MA are you running? What resolution are you running the screensaver? Does it work in Windows mode instead of full screen? |

I had a very similar problem on my new Vista Ultimate x64 machine. The system has 2 - Core 2 Duo 3.2GHz processors and 8GB or RAM and a NVIDIA Quad FX 1300 128MB memory graphics card. My problem turned out to be the graphics card; it did not have enough horse power to keep up with the processors and their power consumption. I had to pony up some more cash for an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB memory graphics card. This card gets it's own power connection and completely solved all video problems I was having. Vista Ultimate x64 was really pushing the FX 1300 to it's limits as evidenced by watching the Task Manager. Yikes!!!

I think ATI are slowly phasing out support for DX7 or just hasn't caught up yet in bug fixing. The newest ATI Catalyst driver for the new cards seems to have issues with our screensavers.

fred@ - Would it be possible to roll back to a previous ATI driver?

It's very nice of you to go to that trouble for us.
In case anyone is wondering, Marine Aquarium used DX6. MA3 will use DX8/9.

It is also possible that ATI just hasn't completely fixed all the bugs on the new drivers. So we may not need to do anything yet. I do noticed that ATI seems to be making sure it is compatible with the popular games. All the release notes are about video games so far.

Yes, there's a good chance that ATI will fix their drivers to accomodate a program that's probably on more computers than anything else except Windows.
By the way, MA3 is the newer version to go along with newer drivers

I install MA2.6 and i cant find it in with the screensavers. I can only reach it from the start menu. Probably because im running Vista 64bit home premium. Anyone has an idea? Thanks

Yes, this one is a known problem. The installer puts the Aquarium in the traditional folder for screensavers (Windows/System32), but the 64-bit version of Vista uses a different folder for 32-bit programs, and it's just the opposite of the one you'd expect. I believe if you copy the Aquarium program to the sysWOW64 folder, then Vista can find it. Edgar or Jim R. probably remember this better that I do, and may be able to give you a definitive answer.
